Mukwamhalanga Tukondjni community trust was founded by the Her Excellency, Madame Penehupifo Pohomba, The First Lady of the Republic of Namibia in 2005 but only became operational in 2007.

Since then MTCT has strived to collaborate with various organizations, Mukwamhalanga Tukondjeni Community Trust strives on implementing the necessary assistance that breeds sustainable projects that will empower disadvantaged communities and especially women in rural areas by stimulating their existing creativities in order for them to become self-reliant self-sufficient.
One of our goals is to empower the rural poor, especially women, through our alternative energy awareness program by plugging communities into the current evolving trend of global warming, climate change and decentralised energy through renewable energy uses. Organisations such as MTCT will be incremental in forming policies and regulatory frameworks.

The name Mukwamahalaga is synonymous with the First Lady as it is the totem of Madame Penehupifo Pohamba, which means elephant and symbolises Humility, pride, patience, dignity, royalty, strength, honor, happiness, longevity, good luck and hope which is what the First Lady symbolizes.

Message from the First Lady  [read more about our Patron]

"My Trust endeavours not only to give blankets and food but also to teach the vulnerable how to create and keep their own livelihood.
I am an optimist and as a mother of the nation I am proud of my Namibian fellow humans beings and children for how far and how much we have accomplished both individually and collectively. Even though there is light on the horizon we are still facing difficult times. In this day and age it breaks my heart to see my people and children suffer from hunger, unemployment, limited chances to attend school and children dying from diseases that should be so easy to cure now a days.
We all go through hardships in life. Some more than others, but there are those of us who have been blessed and are in a position extend a helping to those who are not as fortunate. My hope for Namibia as well as Africa is that no child should starve of hunger anymore, no one should be denied the right to education because of their background or limited means. In Africa we treat necessities as luxuries whereas they are a basic human right and need. Namibia has so many resources and vast amounts of land, there is no need for people to go hungry any more.

Development is not a privilege, development is a state of mind and a basic human right. How can we speak about rural development if the rich keep getting richer and the poor become poorer.

Therefore I ask you my fellow human beings to join hands with me and help those who find it difficult to help themselves. Lets start somewhere, lets stop talking and do something now. "
